Making Strawberry Jam

Room 1 had a go at making their own strawberry jam. We had a discussion on what we might need and how to make it. Indyanna told us we needed a recipe!! We found a recipe on the internet and made our jam. Mrs Kelly read out the ingredients and then the recipe. We had to follow the instructions.

First we put strawberries into a pot. We had to use frozen ones.

Then we added 4 cups of sugar. It looked  like snow on the strawberries.

Next Jan added some lemon juice.

Everyone had a turn at stirring the sugar and strawberries together. It was hard to mix them together.

Mrs Kelly put the pot on an element to cook the sugar and strawberries. We had to leave it for 45 minutes.

When it had cooked we put in jars. Once it cooled down it started to set.

"It tasted yummy!!!" said Ivy-Rose

"Remember to blow on it if it is too hot" said Max

"Yum, Yum, delicious" said Ariana

"Time for a second spoonful" said MacKay.

Watch out Master Chef!!!

The Giant Jam Sandwich

This week Room 1 are having a " Giant Jam Sandwich" week.
On Monday we read the book "The Giant Jam Sandwich" by John Vernon Lord and then discussed all of the things that we could do that related to our term's topic of 'Food'.
We started off by making a jam sandwich each ~ take a look at how we did.

First we spread butter on 2 slices of bread.

Then we spread strawberry jam on one of the pieces of bread.

Next we put our 2 slices of bread together and cut our sandwich in half (2 pieces)

Lastly we all ate our jam sandwich. They were very yummy!!!

Now we are going to make our own strawberry jam and bread.

Fun Sticks Hockey

Take a look at the photos of Room 1 learning how to play hockey with Sharon. We had heaps of fun.

Welcome to Term 2 2014.

This term we are investigating food and the changes that happen to it.
In Room 1 we have lots of ideas about how food is made and wanted to investigate them for ourselves.
Check out our first 'experiment' making jelly.

Lucas and Aaron putting the jelly crystals into a bowl.

Everyone tasted the raspberry jelly crystals.
MacKay loves the taste they are sweet and sugary.

We added hot water and we could smell the lime jelly.

It was then time to stir until all of the crystals were dissolved.
Meila is stirring the lime jelly

Theo is stirring the orange jelly. Good job.

After we put the jelly in the fridge it set and went wobbly.

Jan then gave us some orange and lime jelly.
 Lily and Ivy-Rose can't wait.

Max and Theo enjoying their jelly.

"This is delicious!" said Marco.
