Discovery Time for Room 1 and 2

On Friday Rooms 1 and 2 had their first Discovery Time session. Our focus was to explore the different activities and to work alongside others in both classes sharing our ideas and new learning. We were extremely lucky to have William's mum, Robyne, come in and show us how children used to write with feathers and special pens with ink. Thank you Robyne.
At the end we all shared either something new we had discovered or made during the session.

Indoor Bowls

Today Room 1 had the opportunity to learn how to play Indoor Bowls.
Mrs Mahupuku- Kelly's dad, George, came and showed us how to play. We had great fun even though it was a bit tricky getting the bowl to turn the right way. At the end we had a game of girls against boys to see who would get their bowl the closest to the 'kitty'. The girls team were the winners.
In writing time we all wrote a 'Super Sentence' about playing Indoor Bowls. We had to focus on a capital letter at the start and full stop at the end of our sentence, using finger spaces, writing words from our word card and writing the sounds we could hear in tricky words. The only word Mrs Mahupuku-Kelly helped us with was 'George'.
You can read our 'Super Sentences' below as we are all very proud of our learning and how hard we worked.

Welcome to Term 2

It's only day 2 and we are already getting into some awesome learning with lots more to come.
We have welcomed three new students and also some visiting students due to start later in the term, It is fantastic to see how welcoming and caring the 'old' Room 1 students are to our new members.
This term we are making the most of all of the wonderful opportunities that Fernridge has to offer; Indoor Bowls, Hockey Skills, Discovery Time, Kapa Haka, Choir, Rippa Rugby and a trip to Cobblestones. Just to name a few.
Keep an eye on the Room 1 blog to see what wonderful learning we have been doing.

Hot Cross Bun Fun

Today Room 1 and Room 2 joined together to make some yummy Hot Cross Buns.

We had to remember how the recipe went and put in all of the ingredients ourselves. It was hard work but we had lots of fun.
Waiting patiently to start.
Putting in the 'dry' ingredients.

Rubbing in the butter.
Still rubbing in the butter!
Yet more rubbing in the butter! This takes a long time!
Thank goodness, it's finished!
Time for the egg. (Without the shell)
Awesome teamwork mixing everything together.

Just a bit more milk and our mixture is perfect.
Time to shape our dough.
Making two Hot Cross buns each.

Sticky hands!
Onto the tray to cook.

We had to wait until our Hot Cross buns were cooked.
It took ages.
We were so excited that we ate them and didn't get a photo of our fantastic Hot Cross Buns.

Yum! Yum! Yum!
